I've tried a few other USB 2.0 print servers (once from NetGear, another from Zonet). The installer found the device, asked me for an IP, and even went so far as to re-configure my installed printer settings to use the new device. Until I tried this product, Zonet was my hands-down favorite. When I was in the market for a new print server and the Zonet came up unavailable (no longer being manufactured)., I looked at reviews and selected the IOGear product. The installation involved connecting the device and starting the configuration software (on my Windows machine). Simple, slick and so far rock solid.Switching my Mac and Linux machines over to use the IOGear product was literally as simple as changing the IP addresses the printer was configured on. I am very satisfied with this product, and highly recommend it.My systems:Printer: Brother MFC7420Windows: Windows 7 EnterpriseMac OS X: Leopard / Snow LeopardLinux: Ubuntu 9.10
She needed a way to print what she was working on to our home printer from her office PC. I then used the built-in web interface to configure a static IP address for the GPSU21 (didn't even bother to install the software on the supplied disk). This product was incredibly easy to install and configure. I wanted to do all of this without relying on one of my PCs to host the printer through IPP. I highly recommend this device to anyone who wants to share a printer across their LAN or even across the Web. She also needed to print from her laptop to our printer and her laptop connects to the Internet via a Sprint PC card. I connected the GPSU21 to my network switch and to my printer then plugged it in.
I configured the printer port on each of the PCs to point to the GPSU21 either through the LAN or the Web (the included instructions are excellent and explain this well). My wife is a CPA and sometimes works from home, remote controlling her office PC. Then I forwarded port 631 through my router to the GPSU21. I also wanted to share the printer among the four PCs we have in our house. The printer is a Brother HL1440. In @1/2 hour I had all six of the PCs printing without any problems whatsoever. Oh yeah, the price is right too.
I'm using this print server to share a Canon MP150 all-in-one printer over a wireless network. I'm sharing this printer with a MacBook Pro and a Dell laptop. It was easy to detect and set up, and the posts here were very helpful to have as a reference. No problems, compared to other products I tried.
The first person I spoke with I do believe was just VERY lazy and didn't want to help me with my problem. That is where the positives end. I of course tried this several time on my own only to finally give up and call IOGear Tech Support, which was another HUGE disappointment. I would never suggest it to anyone.
To call back. And I didn't call back. I am a Network Engineer and I like to think I can follow directions rather well. Setting this up should have been a breeze. It seemed to be a perfect fit.
I had to keep repeating to her the next step she asked me to do was complete. All the while I can her here blazing away on her keyboard. This second " tech" spent more time with me but it was very obvious she didn't know what she was doing either. I configured the print server as it said in the manual and when I tried to add this to my PC it just never worked. I was told to install the printer drivers on my PC which had been working before when the printer was directly connected.
This of course didn't work. Let me start off by saying that when i initially looked at this print server. Myself knowing that whatever she was typing had nothing to do what with my problem. After at least half an hour on the phone with her and doing steps to my PC to add the printer (which all the steps she had me do were NOT in the instructions) she then told me to reboot my printer and PC and if it didn't work.
Well guess what. It didn't work. Now I will give Amazon a compliment.
According to the manual that came with this. The returns process was great and I my money for this has been credited back to my account. So I hung up with him and re-installed the drivers.
So I called again. This print server was terrible. DON'T BUY THIS.
I think easy to add printers to it on windows vista windows 7 but can't get on xp I may be do some thing not right
